A & P

�A & P� starts off as a humorous story told by worker named Sammy. He describes another slow day at the A&P as a cashier. You can tell by the way Sammy refers the customer�s as witch, sheep, and house slaves that this is something he sees in his opinion on a regular basis. On this Thursday afternoon, the store was very slow until 3 girls walked in dressed in bathing suits. This caught the eye of Sammy and co-worker Stokesie.
Sammy follows the girls with his eyes down every aisle and speaks of their clothing, physique, and attitude of one of the girls and names her �Queenie�. Sammy and Stokesie appear to like what the girls are wearing. Everyone else in the store notice the way they are ...

Sammy describes Lengel as dreary and teaches Sunday school, so there is some indication that he is a stickler. After hearing the conversation between them, Sammy is upset and reacts without thinking. He decides to quit his job at that moment.
The moral of the story is sometimes you have to think before you speak. Sammy stood up to Lengel and quit his job at the same time. He didn�t think about the consequences of his actions whether they were going to be good or bad. You can tell by reading the story, he wasn�t completely sure of quitting when his manager Lengel told him �You don�t want to do this to your mom and dad� (36). Sammy knew that he had to go along with what he told his manager because he thinks to himself ��.that once you begin a gesture, it�s fatal not to go through with it� (36).
Sammy learns that there are ways to handle situations in life he is faced with. I do not believe he should have used Lengel�s rudeness to the girls as a reason to finally quit. When Sammy ...
