�A Perfect Day for Suicide�

�A Perfect Day for Bananfish� by J.D. Salinger reveals one man�s struggle through his psychotic life of innocence. Seymour obviously has psychological problems that may have been triggered by the war. He is only able to communicate with the two little girls, Sybil Carpenter and Sharon Lipshutz, which he meets at the hotel. A feeling of isolation overcomes him when he realizes he can no longer communicate in the adult world. Seymour creates the �bananafish� which relates to his life by innocent fish never being able to get out of the �banana hole.�Sadly, his problem can only be solved by committing suicide.

two children may seem completely harmless; however, it is very hard for the reader to ignore the sexual undertones. Seymour acts like a child in a sense that he can relate to Sybil and Sharon. He disrobes in front of Sybil and flirts with her in a childlike way. He relates to the girls by escaping from the adults in the room. Seymour isolates himself on the beach, and his answers to Sybil's question of "where is the lady?" make it clear he is unhappy with Muriel. At the scene in the ocean where Seymour kisses Sybil�s foot we cannot decide whether his actions are innocent or affectionate. This small advance shows such love for youth and innocence on Seymour's part. Sybil�s mother is never around to notice, she is off doing her own thing having �a martini with Mrs. Hubbel.� She ignores the fact that her daughter is playing with an older man and doesn�t realize that �see more glass� is an actual person.
