A Visit To Korea

When first arriving in Korea, one will be immediately struck by three realizations. First, a bombardment of the senses: The blaring noises, undulating sea of people and strange, indefinable non-Western odors. Next, the transitions: Ancient to modern, loud to soft, chaos to peace and crowds to seclusion. Finally, the mix of familiar and alien: English and Korean, McDonalds and kimchi, Buddhist drums and folk music. It is a world so much alike yet so different from the West.
Step back to the fourth century A.D. and be transported into the Korea of the ages. Amidst all the noise and confusion lies the ancient Buddhist temples. The deep gong awakens the spirit for prayer. Daeng! Daeng! ...
