As we all know . AIDS is short for Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome. AIDS can be contracted either through sexual intercourse, by blood transfusion, or an exchange of bodily fluids from an infected person to a non-infected person. What many people do not quite understand is that AIDS' main course of action is to target the human immune system. AIDS does not directly make you sick or ill, but it weakens and eventually destroys the immune system so that a person easily contracts other diseases and viruses. People with AIDS have been known to die of a common cold.

There are two variants of chemokines, alpha and beta chemokines. Among these there are many different chemokines from CCR5, CCR3, CXCR4, etc� Now AIDS needs the CD4 molecule and the CCR5 protein to be present on a T-cell to successfully infect the cell. It needs the CD4 molecule to latch on to the cell. Once this is accomplished it needs the CCR5 protein to be able to get inside of the cell in order to infect it.
Both of these two factors are essential in order for AIDS to infect a person. Unfortunately, less than a hundredth of a percent of the human population lacks the CD4 molecule; so finding people without the molecule is extremely difficult, so research on these people is not an option.
