One of the major portions of Aboriginal spirituality stems from a Kinship's obligation to their land. The land on which they live not only acts as a dwelling place for their ancestral spirits, but is also seen as the `Mother of the people', who provides for both their economic needs, such as food, water and materials, but also their spiritual needs through rituals held on their land. Because the land provides so much for the kinship groups, Aboriginal people claim ownership of the land, meaning they are perceived to be the stewards or guardians of the land who must take care of the land just as much as it does unto them. They hold great respect to their land as particular events in the Dreaming are linked to sacred sites which they maintain.
