Abraham Lincoln served as the 16th President of the United States from March 1861 until his assassination in April 1865. He successfully led the country through one of its greatest hardships known as the Civil War. Lincoln in the end preserved the Union, and ended slavery. Lincoln was for the most part self-educated and looking out for the good of the people, not just his own desires. I recently learned that you are preparing a new exhibit and its important that the exhibit shows the correct view of Lincolns work. and should be treated as human beings and not like worthless animals. Lincoln�s efforts to rid the country of slavery were especially stated in his Peoria Speech �I cannot but hate the spread of slavery.� Lincoln saw slavery as an immoral deed to another human being by another human being, and that these white slave owners had no right to govern another man without the consent from that man. Also slavery was a monstrous injustice that needed to be stopped. There are no moral rights in connection with one man making a slave of another. That�s why Lincoln was against the Kansas Nebraska act, which would have allowed slavery into Kansas and Nebraska. Lincoln believed in and wanted equal opportunity for whites and blacks since they are all human beings. He also believed that no man has the right to take another�s liberty and freedom by enslavement.
