All Quiet on the Western Front, written by Erich Maria Remarque, is a considered a great war novel in that it describes, in amazing detail, the experience of a German Soldier at front lines of World War I. As it describes the effects of war, we can also consider this book one of the greatest anti-war novels ever written.
War puts men who are similar, all except that they wear a different uniform, against each other to fight and kill.

In war, men, who might otherwise be brothers, fight each other without knowing that the other side is human as well.
The author describes the horrors and sights of war at the front line. Along the way, Paul sees the dead bodies of soldiers who were killed in battle. This is important because each soldier realizes that at any given moment, he could suffer the same fate. This is also significant because it shows that war is not just a strategic game to be played; men lose their lives in war. In the hospitals, Paul sees the direct results of the war. The reader can see that a man can be wounded in any part of his body, whether it is arm or leg, back or stomach. This is important because the hospitals are where the wounded are sent; there soldiers see the true pain and ...
