Dear Paul Baulmer,

My name is Joseph Catapano and I am truly honored to have not only heard about the many hardships you have gone through, but also relate to and feel them as well. I was very touched by learning about the things going on in your life and was shocked on how you could go through such an obstacle. After learning how World War 1 impacts one life, I don�t know how you could even survive such an event. It also makes me look at things a lot differently as well as the people who I know have suffered through war. You have showed me the true meaning of courage and I have learned many life lessons too.

stress reliever so I can only imagine how much of a prized possession they were to you guys. However, that is one of the very few things I can relate to. On a more serious note, I couldn�t imagine how it was like to just see and be around so many dead bodies. When I read you say �The brown earth, the torn, blasted earth, with a greasy shine under the sun�s rays; the earth the background of this restless, gloomy world of automatons, our gasping is scratching of quill, our lips are dry, our heads are debauched with stupor- thus we stagger forward, and into our pierced and shattered souls bored the torturing image of the brown earth with greasy sun and the convulsed of dead soldiers, who lie there- it can�t be helped- who cry and clutch at our legs as we spring away over them.� I can only imagine what it was like to see the lives taken of several soldiers and just act as if it wasn�t a big deal, because after all it is your job to move forward and defend yourself.
