His story starts off with a ship sailing away from England's dock. We can infer that is it England when in line 23 he states, "Merrily did we drop, below the kirk." Kirk is a colloquialism for a church that is most used in England. It is almost immediately that the ship is off course when they begin to move south and reach "mist and snow"(51) and "Ice, mast high, came floating by as green as emerald" (53,54,55). The reader can infer that they have reached the waters of Antarctica by the reference to glaciers and snow. The man who is listening to the mariner wants to participate in the wedding but has the same hunger, that the mariner has to tell, to listen.
