Baton Rouge, Louisiana

Baton Rouge is a city on the Mississippi River and also the capital of Louisiana. Baton Rouge is the second largest metropolitan city in Louisiana with a population estimation of 230,000. The Greater Baton Rouge area has a population of 825,000 while the urban area has about 600,000.
In 1699 a French explorer by the name of Pierre Le Moyne, Sieur d'Iberville discovered Baton Rouge. The French explorers writings referred to the area as Istrouma or Red Stick, which when translated into French becomes Baton Rouge (http://brgov.com/aboutus.htm).
