It was in the end of my sophomore year. My woodshop teacher said one of the most controversial things I had ever heard. You could clearly see in his face that he was of Hispanic descent. He said to me, "mijo, I am not a Mexican I am full American." Being from a school predominantly Hispanic and being raised in a Hispanic community, that was unheard of. He saw my surprise and the disgust in my eyes and said, "look mijo, what has Mexico ever done for you? You're so proud of being a Mexican and dismiss the fact of being an American, your only lying to yourself. I look at your generation of young Latinos and think to myself how hypocritical you are.
