Every galaxy in the universe includes more than a million of stars . A star is a large, shining ball of tremendously hot gas in space, which produces an immense amount of light and other forms of energy . In fact, the Sun is the closest star to the Earth, which is 150 million kilometers away . Stars burn with different colours and brightness; the hotter they are, the bluer they shine . The smaller the star, the longer it tends to live . Stars usually have a lifespan of 10,000 million years, and the smaller stars, named dwarf stars, live longer than larger stars, like the Sun .
