Abstract

This paper is an analysis about the impact and success of the Civil Rights Movement during the 1960�s. I will illustrate some of the accomplishments of Rosa Parks and Malcolm X that contributed to the success of the civil rights movement. I believe these two African Americans were the most significant contributors of the largest and most successful Social movement in America today. The success of the Civil Rights Rights movement opened up the possibilities of people of color to have freedom in the United States and to cross boundaries that were unforeseen for many decades.

or elderly person. However, this time Parks was tired of the treatment she and other African Americans received every day of their lives. During this time racism, segregation, and Jim Crow laws were very much enforced (Albin, K 2006). "Our mistreatment was just not right, and I was tired of it," writes Parks in her recent book, Quiet Strength, (Zondervan Publishing House, 1994). "I kept thinking about my mother and my grandparents, and how strong they were. I knew there was a possibility of being mistreated, but an opportunity was being given to me to do what I had asked of others." Because of Rosa Parks�s courageous action that day, history was made. Parks was arrested, which lead to a trial and a bus boycott for a little over a year. In November 1956, the United States Supreme Court made a ruling that segregation on transportation is unconstitutional.
