Columbine High School And Its Effects



On Tuesday, the 20th of April, 1999, two students of Columbine High
School in Littleton, Colorado moved through the hallways and classrooms of
their school shooting other teachers and students at random. The two high
school-seniors, Dylan Klebold and Eric Harris killed 12 students, one
teacher and themselves that day, while injuring many others. This horrific
incident has had a lasting effect on the history of this country. The
president of the United States and Congress have tried many times to pass
new gun bills. Many things have been done in the city of Littleton and the
high school that have reflected a change in high schools all across the

proposals of tougher federal
enforcement of existing gun laws and placing more federal prosecutors and
law officers on gun cases. Many agree that both areas are major problems.
Many of the points made on the need for more gun bills have been in
reference to the Columbine Massacre. Colorado governor, Bill Owens, wants
to require criminal background checks at gun shows, including juvenile
records. He also wants to allow for the local prosecution of people who
buy guns for criminals or children, raise the minimum age of buying hand
guns, and require parents who keeps guns in the house to store them safely.
He made all of these requests in response to the Columbine shootings. Many
of the attempts to either create new gun laws or to more strictly enforce
existing ones have been defeated by means of the constitution. Many people
still believe that the tragedy at Columbine High School showed us what
