historically specific overtones and references in the Inferno. I was at first tempted to choose Virgil's less structured work, but decided that Dante's work offered more scope and detail for the pastiche. Dante makes explicit moral judgments relating to the historical and public figures of the time. I decided to leave this aspect out as it would have meant that I would not have been able to concentrate on the development of mood and atmosphere.
