I believe one of the most difficult things I have had to deal with since my dad has been in the military has been the deployments my dad has served. My dad has deployed twice to Iraq, and once to Afghanistan. Everytime my dad deployed, he was always gone for longer than a year. I learned that I needed to be able to take care of myself, and if I wanted something done, I needed to make sure it would happen. With my dad being gone, my mom was left to play the role of two parents, and she did an amazing job of doing that. Thanks to my mom, we were up on time, and out the door to school on time. We still got to go to different sports activities, had a meal every night, and someone to tuck us in. However, it wasn't easy for her, and anyone could tell you that. When my dad first deployed, it was only me and my sister. We started out with little tasks, like pet duty. We made sure the dogs had food and water, and that they were let out in time. As we got older, we were assigned other household chores. We had to make sure our rooms were clean, and we helped with little things around the house: dishes, sweeping, laundry, and cleaning the bathrooms.
