Diction is used as a style of speaking or writing as an independent upon choice of words. Diction refers to the means and the manner of expression ideas. In the poem, �There is no Frigate like a Book,� Emily Dickinson uses a graphic style of speech to argue that poetry has a unique power to take people from their immediate surroundings into a world of the imagination.

To begin, the poem is arranged around a series of metaphors comparing poetry to various conveyances. urgency and freedom. The poem she argues conducts an urgent and important message. The word �coursers� also connotes the sense of beauty and spirit. The subject matter of freedom is picked up again in the next line, which Dickinson uses with the word, �prancing� which is used to describe poetry. Poetry lets the mind free, which hints at the joy and excitement of reading it. Dickinson also acclaims books for their universal accessibility. �This Traverse may the poorest take Without the oppress of Toll-� �traverse� expresses the hardships and the ability to overcome them.

Lastly, Dickinson expresses more ways to signify the use of diction by using words to take people to another world. When Dickinson says, �frugal,� she is connoting that frugal offers to a sense of the positive moral values. This word fortifies the use of the word, �Chariot,� which indicates romance and adventure.
