is often cited as one of the most influential writers in the world. He is said to have invented the detective story, and inspired the future of science fiction stories. His stories and style have motivated various authors such as, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, and H.G. Wells. Poe's works have fascinated literate people all around the world for over 150 years.
Poe was born on the blessed day of January the nineteenth, 1809, in Boston Massachusetts. Both his parents, unfortunately were very poor. Poe spent three years in the army, during this time he began experimenting with writing. In his last three months in the army, Poe decided he did not desire to be a professional soldier. He left the army set on becoming a professional writer. In 1833 Poe had written three books of poems, a few short stories, and became a literary critic. His criticism was excellent, and full of sharp wit. Poe could never keep a job as a critic for long though because he was fast becoming an alcoholic.
Poe, at this time is fully estranged from his foster father and sought help from his aunt, Maria Clemm, a poor widow, he lived with her and her daughter. Poe married Virginia Clemm in 1837, he 28 and she 14. During the 10 years they were married Poe was poor, sick, and began having fits of anger.
