Electronic home monitoring devices allow low-risk inmates to serve the last portion of a jail sentence at home in their community, while making more space available in the jail to accommodate inmates who pose a greater threat to society. This device also allows the offender to work and or attend school, doctor appointment's, as well as receive drug, alcohol, and mental health treatment. Since the cost of monitoring an offender is lower than the cost of housing him or her in a correctional facility, electronic monitoring will also save tax dollars.
