the owner. Afterward, he published three editions of a book called �Leaves of Grass�. These books were a collection of poems, and by the third edition it was a collection of over 146 poems. Then the civil war began and Walt went to Virginia to visit his injured brother. While he was there he volunteered at an army hospital and witnessed the war first hand. This gave his poetry a theme of death, immortality, and the soul. When the war was over, Walt published the seventh edition of �Leaves of Grass�. Walt Whitman died at the age of 73 with now a worldwide reputation.
