According to Webster�s New Twentieth Century Dictionary, Unabridged to be entitled is �to qualify (a person) to do something; to give a claim to; to give a right to demand or receive� (�Entitle,� def. 3). The example is then given being paid for work performed. In Roget�s Thesaurus a few of the synonyms given are: deserve or merit, be worthy of, rightful, fit or becoming, warranted, worthiness and eligibility (Roget 418, 614-615).
