"Evolution of a Naturalist" by Richard Milner is a story about the life of Charles Darwin, naturalist who discovered the theory of evolution. Darwin had many fine character traits that helped him achieve his goal.
One of these traits was the need for adventure. Darwin was a lazy as a child and if something were to interest him, it would have to be an adventure. As he got older, he traveled to many places that helped him discover the theory of evolution. One of these was his expedition to the Galapagos Islands on the H.M.S. Beagle. There he discovered fossils of armadillos that were much like the armadillos roaming the islands. This first got him thinking about how species changed ...

Another and maybe the most important trait was the ability to work hard. If Darwin found something that interested him, he would be willing to spend years working on it and improving it. An event that shows this occurred between 1846 and 1854. Charles knew that his fellow scientists would not agree with his theory unless he mastered the details of a zoological group. He decided to devote eight, painstaking years to the study of barnacles. Also, later in his life, to prove and explain his theory in great detail and criticize before critics could, Darwin spent more than fifteen years writing a book about the origin of species.
