As we read the book Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close I noticed various themes throughout, but the one theme that manage to catch my eye was grief. Grief can be defined in five stages, denial, anger, bargaining, depression and acceptance. As we progressed through this book I saw that Oskar experienced immense grief through all five unique phases in his quest to get over his father's untimely death.
