At first, we, the readers, are shown how Goody Brown was a steadfast individual, reiterating to himself that he is not one who will be tempted by the evil. However, as his paranoia over his co-fellows in the community grew (suspecting people of good and noble character to be members of the secret evil cult that he witnessed during that night), we are suddenly shown a different Goody Brown character; instead of the brave, religious, and steadfast young man, we the readers are confronted with a paranoid and doubting man after he witnessed the secret night meeting of his community members that night.
