Feminist literary criticism is the natural choice for these two works. Had other works by the same author reflecting images and dynamics that say more about subjugation in the general as an aspect of the African American experience another form, possibly Marxist criticism would express adequate meaning. Yet these two works are complete thoughts based on the identity of the author not as subjugated but as a partner in making the choices that the world delivers to women and especially to black women.
