In the heart of the Woman�s Rights Movement in the 1960�s, there was one feminist pioneer who was paving new roads, but not in the office or as part of a protest, instead she took it to the track. The fearless woman in question is Diane Crump, the world�s first female jockey, who at the age of 18 had to fight her way through an angry crowd just to get to her first race.

Diane was surrounded by police escorts. She was ushered through flashing bulbs popping, and jeering crowds of cheers and boos, to a small office which would serve as her locker room. On that day at Hialeah Racetrack, she was about to become the first woman to ever ride in a pari-mutuel race (pari-mutuel refers to a system of betting,) on U.S. soil. Although she didn�t win that race, Crump showed that female jockeys could handle the track and the thoroughbreds just as well as a male jockey.

After that moment in her life she began to get many invitations to ride all over the world from places such as Puerto Rico and Venezuela. During a match race (race between 2 horses) in Puerto Rico, she experienced a situation out of her own comfort zone.
