�Do not judge a book buy its cover,� is a popular saying in the world today. The quote refers to the judging of people because they look different before even getting to know them. This quote ties into the themes in the novel Frankenstein, which is appearance vs. reality. Appearance vs. reality is the theme continuously repeated in this novel. as the creature approaches Frankenstein, runs away. Fankenstein says, ��its gigantic statue, and the deformity of its aspect, more hideous than belongs the humanity��(Shelley 72). This shows that Frankenstein is disgusted by the look of the creature. Frankenstein just assumes from the creature�s looks, that the creature is horrible or dangerous, but really all the creature wants is to know who his creator is and to talk to it. �I trembled with rage and horror, resolving to wait his approach��(Shelley 93). This is saying that Frankenstein is scared that the creature is approaching him. This demonstrates the theme of appearance vs. reality. The appearance of the creature makes Frankenstein ill and he cannot bear the creature, so he does not associate with it. But deep down, the creature is only trying to make new friends and does not have any intention of hurting Frankenstein.
