When the epic novel "Frankenstein" came out in 1831 the world's eyes were opened to idea of man creating another man, with science instead of through the use of reproduction. The story demonstrated the horrible fact that creating humans through scientific methods didn't fall into the natural order. This of course was in 1831, when science was still in its infancy.
