His first work in 1933 was known as �Down and Out In Paris and London�. This is also when he adopted the pen name George Orwell. He chose this name to hide his family of any shame caused by his book. In 1936 He met Eileen O'Shaughnessy who he married in 1936. Soon after marrying he went to Spain to help the fight against General Francisco Franco in the Spanish Civil War. He was shot twice during this, once in the neck and once in the arm. He left Spain and went back to England where he wrote numerous political essays and reviews and became a producer for the BBC in 1941 before quitting in 1943. He is known for his two most famous works 1984 and Animal Farm.
