When you are reading "The Yellow Wallpaper" and "The Fall of the House of Usher," both of the stories are in some way an example of gothic literature. In the essay it will explain how and why they are gothic literature. It will also explain why people are sane or insane or if it is a matter of their environment. In "The Yellow Wallpaper" and "The Fall of the House of Usher" it definitely is more difficult to tell if the narrator is sane or insane. On the other hand, I think it is a matter of their environment that makes them insane or sane, but meanwhile people could be sane or insane.

or sane. For an example; I took a test that said I was 9.09% insane. The test could be wrong and I could just be mentally insane or sane, well that is the same for Roderick Usher. He could be mentally insane or even described as insane. That doesn't mean that he is actually insane or sane. It is just saying that people around him think he is pretty insane. Just because someone or something said that you are insane or sane doesn't mean anything at all.
The character's actions and appearance in "The Fall of the House of Usher" clearly indicate that he is insane. Poe enhances this through use of setting. In Poe's texts, Roderick is unnaturally connected to a place, which becomes a reflection of his mind. While Roderick Usher shows his deranged thoughts through both his physical appearance and by burying his sister alive this proves that he is a mad man; Roderick's uncontrollable and irrational sense demonstrates his mental instability.
