was born in Lamar, Missouri on May 8, 1884. He grew up in the near by town Independence, Missouri, not to far from Kansas City. After his High School graduation, he worked at many different types of jobs, but finally he took over the family farm and had steady work to do. Truman graduated from the University of Kansas City Law School. During World War 2, he was stationed in France to fight. He returned home after we defeated the Germans for the first time, but not to work on the farm. Him and a partner went into business together selling men's clothing. programs. He did his job in that committee so well, he was then thought of very highly throughout the Democratic Party. So much, that he replaced Henry A. Wallace for vice-president in the 1944 presidential election. His running mate, Franklin Roosevelt was running for his fourth term as president. They won that election and was now the Vice President of the United States, for 82 days.
On April 12, 1945, President Roosevelt died in office, making the President of the United States of America in a most crucial time in the history of the world. World War 2 was at the point of destroy or be destroyed. Germany surrendered shortly after on May 8, 1945, lucky for Truman, but he still had Japan to deal with. Also, even though the U.S. and the U.S.S.R. were fighting together, controversy began. The Soviets wanted total control over Eastern Europe.
