Love, love, oh how I love him. Je t'aime roi Henri. Ah Alice, how I love him. He is so noble and humble and wise and strong. Who would have thought that I could love my countries enemy? As a woman how precious is a life, to live only to be a wife; to have and to hold the love of a King.

And after all the Dauphin had said about how idiotic and naive Henry has been, he is nothing like the cowardly dog my brother described him as. I remember reading in the library with mother one evening; I could hear father and the Dauphin discussing the coronation of Henry. Henry did offer me his hand in holy matrimony so long as I loved him, like he loved me. Does Henry really love me Alice? Or was that just a cover up, thought of by his nobles? Could I really marry a man so cunning and deceitful? And allow myself to waste away as a mere trophy of war? What would father say if I changed my mind? I couldn't go back on my word. I would disgrace my family and ruin their mighty name. But I couldn't live with myself, knowing Henry is not whom he says he is.

And I cannot simply back out of a marriage to which I have already accepted. This marriage unites England and France as brothers. A unity formed by the love of me and my Henry. But is there truly a true love between Henry and me? For if this love that unites France and England is not true, how can the unity be true? Oh Alice, I'm not even sure I love ...
