Heroin: The Most Dangerous Drug



In today's society, heroin is considered the �hardest,�most dangerous drug.
A street junkie can be found in miserable health and suffering from many
illnesses and medical maladies due to their harsh lifestyles. Probably the
least amount of drug addicts are heroin addicts, however the overdose rate
for heroin addicts is astronomical, showing heroin can be a very dangerous
drug. Many deaths related to heroin are the results of conditions arising
from it's illegality rather than its toxicity. For example, the many
problems addicts suffer from such as hepatitis, tetanus, pneumonia,
nutritional deficiencies, and AIDS, are due to dirty needles or lack of

Lastly, AIDS is aconsequence of
sharing dirty needles, as is hepatitis and tetanus, which could also be
prevented through legalization and availability of sterile equipment. One
of the reasons heroin is considered both a very dangerous drug and perhaps
the hardest drug is the fact that the line between efective dose and the
lethal dose is so thin. An addict can have his or her fill and then the
next injection can kill them. It is strange, though, that heroin's affects
on the body are not all that severe. Heroin is actually relatively non-
toxic. If care is taken, a person can remain an addict for dozens of
years without any medical complications. Narcotics are pretty safe for the
body. None of the prgans are damaged with use, even by a lifetime of
addiction. There are no major malfunctions of the body, tissue damage, no
physical detioration directly traceable to the use of any narcotis. Aside
