History

When I hear the word history I think of two different types of historical past. I think of popular historical events such as the Roman's, the Holocaust and the Civil War; but I also think of the history of nursing and medicine in general. I think of being in Junior High and High School. Sitting in a class room while my teacher talks on and on about sentinel historical events. Most of these events seem very inconsequential to a teenager. When I was in school learning this topic it was not done interactively which is how I learn best. but this is my own definition. I will not lie and say that history is a subject that I want to learn about all the time.
The thing that makes something historical is that it has happened in the past. To me the question should be what makes something historically significant. The difference between historical and historically significant is huge. Historically significant events are things in the past that has or will affect people of the generation in which the event happens; and how it will affect future generations. I will give two examples of historically significant events. The first event is Florence Nightingale changed the cleanliness of hospital conditions during the Crimean War. The impact for Florence Nightingale's patients and future patients and nurses is of epic proportions.
