Trust in Friendships

Friendships are built off the amount of trust and respect people have for each other. As Stieg Larsson once said in a novel of his, “You can have respect for someone, but if you don't have trust, the friendship will crumble.” In the play Julius Caesar, William Shakespeare uses the idea of friendship through the characters; Caesar, Brutus, Cassius, and Antony, to illustrate that strength in alliances and the power of manipulation of one another have lasting effects even after a death.

respect Caesar enough to actually be friends. The conspirators also carried out this saga of manipulation in the public eye. While Caesar was walking to the Senate house, Decius called out, “All hail! Good morrow, worthy Caesar." Little acts similar to this boosted Caesars confidence because all he would receive is praise. The conspirators were very clever by praising him publicly because people would believe they loved Caesar and wanted him as ruler, when in reality they didn’t. While the conspirators believed they had valuable reasonings to manipulate Caesar, they had enough disrespect for him to lose both of Caesars respect and trust.

During the play, allies were formed in abnormal ways. To create a strong conspiracy group, Cassius started asking men who were on the edge about Caesar becoming ruler. Cassius tried persuade Brutus verbally to see if he would join the group but Brutus held a grudge because Caesar had yet to misuse his power in office. However, the main ...
