Shakespeare’s King Lear presents us with a fascinating insight into human behaviors such as villainous and virtuous. This play is centered around one mans decline and fall from power and grace, although Lear is the main focus of the story the drama is full of many other characters who all play a pivotal role in the action and outcome that unfolds within the play. With this play being full of characters with such depth there is always a constant debate on the fact that the characters who are more commendable and virtuous characters are outshone and do not attract as much fascination and intrigue as the more deplorable and villainous characters. and asks ‘which one of you shall we say doth loves us most?’ this begins a love test and conflict between the three daughters. Goneril is the first to answer and appeals to Lear's vanity while stating she loves him ‘more than words can wield the matter’. In reality she has shown a façade, behind which she now plots to bring down her father and take control with her sister Regan. She then proceeds to tell her younger sister regan after that her father is of ‘poor judgment’ and ‘unruly waywardness’ and she is now conspiring to further undermine him when she says ‘pray you. Let’s hit together’. This is extremely fascinating in the way that a child could be so scheming against her own loving father and what is also equally intriguing is that Lear's other daughter Regan can go along with this so easily.
