Mathematicians, traditionally, are more of a right-brained type of thinkers. Artists and writers, comparingly, have more of a left brain train of thought. (or Charles Lutwidge Dodgson) was an exception. This mathematician and writer had both qualities. He wrote a number of famous books and poems that ranged from a humorous to serious tone. was a fascinating man that loved children. His love for children and stories is how his most famous book came about, Alice and Wonderland.

his juvenile years he received an endless series of excellent marks, prizes, and congratulations.
When he was eighteen, Charles applied to the Christ Church College at Oxford University. Here he studied, gave lectures and lived for the rest of his life. Again, he distinguished himself with the first class honors in math, second class in classics and the Butler scholarship. According to this scholarship, he was to remain unmarried and proceed to holy orders. Which he did, for he never married. In 1855, he was appointed lecturer in mathematics at Christ Church. A position he held until 1881. Six years later he was ordained a deacon, but he never proceeded to a priest�s orders, probably because he stammered. He did, however, preach from time to time, mostly to children.
