Olive is an eccentric seven-year-old girl from the suburbs of Albuquerque, New Mexico whose dream is to be a beauty pageant queen. The only thing is that she is just an average girl; she wears glasses and is not up to beauty pageant standards. Throughout the movie, Olive is the happy member of her family. Olive is also a hard worker and always willing to practice to become a beauty pageant queen. Olive and her family travel to the Little Miss Sunshine pageant and along the way get into a lot of trouble but bond as a family and realize a lot about themselves. It wasn�t until the family gets a voicemail informing that the winner of the first local pageant dropped out, so now Olive could compete in the Little Miss Sunshine. Seeing how important her dream is, the family decides they must get Olive to California so she can compete in the Little Miss Sunshine beauty pageant. With a family like Olive�s, things turn out to be much more complicated than expected. They run into problems like Olive�s mom, Sheryl, not being able to drive a stick-shift or Uncle Frank not able to be left alone so the whole family must to go to California for the competition. Because of her dysfunctional family, it is easy to see why Olive would be the underdog.
