A lot people listen to some type of music, mostly on the radio. Sometimes musical horizons are expanded, people become more eclectic, by listening to music that is not very mainstream. How does a band get on the radio? How does a band �make it�? Common belief is that making good music is all that it takes to become a great, well known artist/band. Looking at the odds of one out of three hundred people, one would bet that most albums would be successful. The question of a successful band lies with the amount of exposure a band gets. The term Exposure means radio play. It is sort of a catch 22, a band needs to sell 20,000 albums in order to make it on the radio. For a band to even sell 20,000 albums, they most definitely have to be on the radio. Many bands in America that actually make good music are almost never heard because they don�t get the exposure they need.
The opportunity for a band to be played on the air has to be afforded to the band by a record company. A radio company will draw up a deal to pay for some of the band�s expenses, mainly studio recordings, distribution, and promotion. Studio recording time costs approximately $3.50 per CD.
