Malcolm X Summary

In Malcolm X's essay, "Learning to Read," he reflects on how his life changed while in prison, from his homemade education, and self taught knowledge of the race power struggle in history. While incarcerated X wanted to learn how to read, write, and talk more clearly. He first started his homemade education from his cell when he got a dictionary and wrote down every page in it, down to the periods. Once he finished writing them he would read them aloud to learn how to pronounce them and to help remember what they meant. the whole country of India. X beginnings to talk about how the Chinese had their struggle too and how much they hated the white man. They brought opium to China and it got many people addicted to narcotics and started wars. After Red China came to power they shut off the western world. X tells us about how America's U.N. Ambassador admits there was a race game being played.
Once Malcolm X read all this information on the power struggle for all races, his drive for knowledge was still there. He says he always has a book in his hand and is always trying to gain to knowledge. All this because while he was in prison, his life changed since he wanted to become more educated. X believes that his self education was better than school because he didn't have all the distractions everyone else has. X's homemade education, in prison, and self taught knowledge of the power struggle made him into a better man.
