I found Lilla's book interesting and well written. His intention to examine and in some cases entangle, important philosophical figures that played a key role to the evolution of Western thought/civilization and globally, such as Hobbes, Rousseau, Locke, Hume, Kant, and Hegel although it was presented in a satisfactory manner, it was also an anticipated move that left me with an incomplete feeling. So, as I kept reading, I kept wondering why was that happening?
