Not only has there been an increase in violent acts seen by children every day but there has been a huge increase in the amount and severity of violent acts in the media. This includes television, movies, computer games, and video tapes and there has even been an increase in the weapon-like toys and other products that are linked to violent programming. This trend is putting the healthy development of children and their minds at risk. The NAEYC believes it is the responsibility of adults and public policy to protect children from the exposure of violent television in the media.
