Milagro Beanfield War

The Milagro Beanfield War is a depiction of the power struggle between the residents of Milagro(B) and Devine development group(A) who wants to build a large vacation resort on nearby land.. Devine(A) has the power and resources of the state government to create legislation regarding water rights for irrigation of their property, preventing the poor farmers from watering their land to provide crops. The people of Milagro(B) are mostly old and poor, and they have little contact with state and federal governments. While the developers (A) have contacts in the state government to allow them access to lawmakers and law enforcement that the residents(B) do not have control over.

Even though the sheriff and rangers are part of (B) they have been misled to believe they have to no choice but to enforce the laws and cooperate with Devine(A).
Devine group(A) also employs an outsider, Mr. Montana to bully and threaten Joe with jail time for his actions. While Joe begins the fight as an individual, he eventually gains the support of his friend Ruby and a lawyer/newspaper publisher named Charlie Bloom. With the energy of Ruby to help organize the people and the legal knowledge and press of Charlie, the community (B) begins to resist the power of (A) as a group.
Still the Devine group(A) fights back with fear tactics such as beating up Charlie in the dark, buying and attempting to destroy all the newspapers, and trying to bulldoze the beanfield to prevent a successful harvest. They ...
