Somewhere in Corsica, a boy named Napoleon was growing up. Little did he know that drastic scientific and social advancements were being made throughout Europe. Growing up in a changing world, this new enlightened society surrounded him. As a citizen of the French Monarchy, Napoleon was a witness to the revolution. From the ashes of a nation, a strong leader was needed to emerge. Because Napoleons policies in governing a nation reflected those of a person heavily impacted by the enlightenment, it is obvious to see how Napoleon was a child of the enlightenment and followed those properties.

Bowing to no man, Napoleon struck an accord with the Vatican. He established 50 bishops throughout France, and oversaw all of their actions. �He paid the clergy directly, and he made them financially dependent on his treasury�. ? �He had the whole church in his hands, he had the whole wide church in his hands� ?.
