Objectivism In The Founterhead



Howard Roark from, The Fountainhead, was the physical representation of Ayn Rand�s philosophy, objectivism, and various other main characters represented other philosophies which were rejected by objectivism. Howard Roark shows all of the basic principles of objectivism at different points throughout the novel. The character Ellsworth Toohey represented collectivism, and Peter Keating demonstrated altruism.

them playing with his soul then. Because when a person becomes what people want him to be he opens up his soul to be influenced. When a person gives pieces of your soul to too many people he is left with an empty shell. In effect that person becomes a virus, living off the souls of others but never re-obtaining a soul for himself. As a �virus� Keating would �have people right where you want them� because the �host� would not be able to rid itself of the virus. Keating would also have always be attached to his host in order to survive, but in the later half of The Fountainhead, Peter could find no person to feed off of, and he soon lost all his material possessions. Unfortunately that is not all he lost as he soon realized that he had lost his self-respect and thus lost his spiritual existence.
Ellsworth Toohey (collectivism) had many followers from his speeches, and this was his only goal, to make everyone under him to obey, agree, and sacrifice. He wanted to be the leader ...
