The book/novel, The Odyssey and the movie, O Brother Where Art Thou both show numerous similarities and, or differences. Homer's the Odyssey, is written in Shakespeare's language and the words are reversed being hardly illegible. The Coen brothers' O Brother Where Art Thou? Is more understandable and is slightly different from the books moral sense. I will be discussing the similarities and the differences between both of these epics.

There is also a contrast point to the story too. The railroad represents the sea because that's how Odysseus and his crew travel. Another difference is instead of Odysseus and his crew being drugged by the sirens, they got drunk. The sirens sing to them causing Odysseus and his crew to go to them without any control to themselves. Another example is when the dog sees his owner he does not die, but gets hit by the big tide. The dog did not speak in the movie too, he was an ordinary dog and instead of him being Odysseus' owner, he was the sheriffs

In my opinion I believe the film was more entertaining, but the Odyssey is a long epic poem that shows great imagery for a blind man and gives a glimpse of what themes were needed in order to be a good play. The film, O Brother Where Art Thou, gives viewers two stories to look upon and is easy to understand, it also has some unnecessary scenes that are not related to the book, but show theatrical pleasure.
