The first words uttered by the god present the weird nature of his position where he associates his fate with Oedipus although he seems appreciative of Oedipus' wisdom and doesn't show any reservations on it. Here, Teiriasis appears too blunt when foretelling the cruel fate looming over Oedipus and doesn't show any compassion for the king declaring him a patricide and incest. Obviously, the prophecy by the god is overruled by the king. In fact, he could not comprehend the Teiresias. Moreover, we can't find any specific reason for revealing that prophecy on the king's life.
