Things Fall Apart is a novel written by Chinua Achebe, a Nigerian author about the true situation from the perspective of a local about pre-colonial life in Nigeria and the arrival of the Europeans during the late nineteenth century. In this story, the Christian white men come to the Ibo clan and begin to take over their life and culture. Okonkwo, the main character of the story, as a tragic hero and an inflexible warrior at heart, he experiences a culture collision and is unable to adapt to changing times that the white men come and live among his villagers as well as tries to fight ...

which drives Okonkwo crazy. Okonkwo curses Nwoye a lot and uses lots of ways to stop his son from diving into Christianity, but it does not work. Nwoye joins the church and is sent to a teacher's college by Mr. Brown, a missionary, to gain further knowledge. Mr. Brown thinks that this good news would please Okonkwo, but it is the opposite. The great warrior gets mad and "had driven him away with the threat that if he came into his compound again, he would be carried out of it" (Achebe 182). Okonkwo does not want any of his family's members to get involved in the white men's business, but Nwoye does against his words. When he sees Mr. Brown, he chases Mr. Brown away from his house and threatening the man with violence. His action confirms that he does not accept the new religion, new knowledge, and culture. He hates and wants to wipe these white men away so things would be back to normal.
