Abstract

This study surveyed 217 police officers in the jurisdiction of Cobb County (Marietta, Kennesaw, Smyrna, Acworth, and Austell) Georgia in 2011. The study examined the officers' attitude toward to police corruption and evaluated the impact of race, age, police experience, and the division the officer worked in. Important findings included that overall (1) the majority of respondents had some sort of education on accepting and refusing gifts or bribes; (2) most respondents agreed that accepting a gift would not affect their decision in the future; and (3) once an officer had found out that they had pulled over a ...

There are two main purposes of this questionnaire; if officers were ever taught if certain illegal acts were actually illegal and if they or one of their peers have done a corruptive act.

One thought is that maybe some officers were not taught that it is not okay to be bribed by bars, coffee shops and restaurants. Even though it seems like a kind act if someone gives a police officer something free but unfortunately there sometimes there are alternative motives.
