In the novel, "Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass, an American Slave," we learn and understand that the white man has gained great power over African Americans. Although they are human beings just like them, the white men knew they had complete control over these people. These slave holders did not care who these dark skinned people were, what they had, or how they ended up on their farms. Whites did not pay any mind to a slave enduring physical or emotional abuse.
